Custom Embroidery Patches for Illinois Businesses
Illinois orders skew industrial and institutional — manufacturing, the trades, unions and service organisations, with Chicago hospitality alongside. The unifying factor is that most of it goes on workwear that has to last through a real winter.

Manufacturing and the trades
The core segment. Company patches and name strips on work shirts, coveralls and jackets for fabrication shops, electrical contractors, HVAC and plumbing.
Requirements are consistent: sew-on backing, because these garments are laundered hard and worn harder, and polyester thread for colourfastness. Designs should be robust rather than delicate — a finely detailed crest does not improve after a year in a fabrication shop.
Name strips are common enough to mention separately. If staff change regularly, velcro name patches on a permanently badged garment are more economical than embroidering names directly, which makes every shirt non-transferable. See backing options.
Winter outerwear changes the rules
Illinois winters put crews in heavy insulated jackets, and that narrows the options:
Iron-on is out. Heavy canvas, insulated shells and softshell fabrics don't bond reliably, and the heat needed risks damaging synthetic outer layers. Sew-on for anything on winter gear.
Waterproof and insulated shells need thought. Needle holes compromise a membrane. If the jacket is genuinely waterproof, discuss placement before ordering — sometimes the answer is a patch on a non-critical panel, sometimes it's not decorating that garment at all. Cold makes materials brittle. PVC stiffens considerably in deep cold and can crack at flex points on a garment that's being bent and worked. For Illinois winter workwear, embroidered patches generally outlast rubber.
Unions and trade associations
A meaningful Illinois segment. Local numbers, association insignia, service awards and anniversary patches.
These are usually detailed — seals, text rings, dates — packed into three or four inches. That combination is where embroidery's roughly 5mm text floor becomes the constraint, and where woven is frequently the honest recommendation instead.

Restaurants, hotels and venues, with the pattern common to the sector: commercial laundering, high turnover, brand colour accuracy expected. Sew-on for the permanent badge, velcro for names.
Agriculture

Multi-site consistency
Contractors and manufacturers running several facilities hit the standard problem: patches ordered separately at different times drift in colour. Record the thread numbers on the first order and reference them thereafter — the full explanation is in why your second order doesn't match the first.
Timing
Digitizing returns by email in 12–24 hours, or same day with rush. Patch production runs one to two weeks depending on quantity and type, plus transit. Plan two to three weeks end to end for a first order.
Winter gear is worth ordering ahead — decorating jackets in October when everyone else is doing the same is slower than doing it in August.
